The 3M Scott Fire & Safety Firefighter Combat Challenge is coming to the Mall of America July 13 and 14 and will be held in the East Lot off of 24th Avenue.  This is a great opportunity for you and your family to come out and watch firefighters challenge themselves to a course that ESPN has called the “toughest 2 minutes in sports.”  This event is FREE for all to attend!

The Challenge seeks to encourage firefighter fitness and demonstrate the profession’s rigors to the public. Wearing “full bunker gear” and the 3M Scott Air-Pak™ SCBA, competitors race head-to-head as they simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a linked series of five tasks including climbing the five-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. “victim” as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock.

Every year, the Challenge attracts hundreds of U.S. and Canadian municipal fire departments at more than 25 locations and is now expanding to countries around the world, including New Zealand, Germany, Argentina, Chile, South Africa and just recently signed to compete in Ukraine.

The Kid’s Firefighter Challenge (KFC) is the logical extension of our efforts in showcasing the American Fire Service while at the same time, promoting physical fitness. For the Kid’s Firefighter Challenge, each child is outfitted with a helmet and “turn-out gear.” The events mirror those used in the Firefighter Combat Challenge.
