Monroe, N.C. (April 26, 2018) – 3M Scott Fire & Safety will be the primary sponsor of the 2018 Firefighter Combat Challenge at FDIC International, marketing the 26th year the company has supported the intensive training exhibition. The global leader in innovative respiratory and personal protective equipment continues to support the program through monetary and equipment support.

Wearing “full bunker gear” and the Scott 5.5 Air-Pak breathing apparatus in the Combat Challenge, pairs of competitors race head-to-head as they simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a linked series of five tasks, including climbing the five-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. “victim” as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock. FDIC attendees are invited to compete or observe the influential event.

“We’re proud to once again support the Firefighter Combat Challenge and witness firefighters exhibit their fitness and demonstrate the intense the duties of the job,” said Matt Tandy, global marketing manager of 3M Scott. “It’s an exciting element of FDIC each year, and an event we’re proud to support year-round for these incredible first responders.”

With Combat Challenge events across country throughout the year, 3M Scott will provide $600,000 in 2018 to support the program. The Challenge annually attracts hundreds of U.S. and Canadian municipal fire departments at more than 25 locations and is now expanding to other countries around the world. With 3M Scott’s consistent equipment, financial and promotional support, the challenge was renamed in 2011 in the company’s honor and today is called the 3M Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge.
